"Advertisers increasingly succeed because they do the new intrusive thing that gets attention," says Gary Ruskin. But surely this is only one way of responding to the backlash. The other way - an example of which, the Nokia Music Recommender, is cited in the article - is to create marketing messages that people want to engage with. I'd feel perfectly happy being recommeded something that will be of benefit to me - however commercially minded that recommendation may be.
