I begin to wonder what the role of management becomes in this world - other than that of outsourcing every function and decision and thereby covering their ass.

I'm trying to write one answer to that question at the moment.
Either that, or I'm going to apply to McKinsey, where they get paid mega-bucks for doing just that.
